Unplug – No!!! Oh Yes, You Can!

It’s a really good idea to unplug all your electronic devices and leave them switched off during your retreat experience – otherwise, they’ll be pinging away and you might be tempted to check your messages. 

When you step away from your normal busy schedule, your mind slows down, but if you keep looking at a screen, it’ll speed righ up again.

Did you know that the light that comes off your mobile or tables stimulates the production of hormones that make you feel alert?  This can make it difficult for you to relax and it can also interrupt your sleep patterns, which is why it’s wise to avoice too much screen time just before bed. 

There are useful apps and settings on most gadgets these days which will filter out blue light, as well as reducing the intensity, which may help you sleep better.  They have names like blue light filter or night light. 

If you feel jittery or anxious, with your phone switched off, it might be worth taking a closer look at your relationship with the device.  There is no need to ditch your gadgets, geeze where would be these days without them for search, work, shopping etc.   If you can break your cycle or need to look at notifications, check your phone and take regular breaks without it, you’ll feel a lot better. 

Let’s try to take time out to unplug regularly and switch it off at least 45 minutes before bed. 

Do you have diffuser next to your bed?  Fragrant the room with lavender or another favourite calming scent using essential oils, and start setting the mood in your boudoir for rest.  

Have subdued lighting in the room and/or take some time to listen to a meditation, breath or try a 15-minute yoga stretch.  You can do yoga easy in the PJ’s.  

Grab an eye silk pillow from the online shop – these are slightly scented with lavender – I go to sleep every time I use mine – bliss. 

Get your mind back in its zen space and not in the stimulated gadget space.  You’ll sleep better for it, and we need our rest – to be amazing day after day!
